Feeling warrior strong

Today I intended to try bhujangasana "Iyengar-style", but I was plagued by a cramp in my left foot that refused to let up (only in this pose). I haven't had an experience like this since I conquered my cramps this spring, so I took it as a message from my body to try something else.

Instead, I continued my third day experimenting with Virabhadrasana (Warrrior) I and III. I felt like I have been more fully experiencing the power of W-I ever since I began allowing my back hip to open a little. Now, starting in a wider stance and focusing more on rotating (spiraling?) the back leg, sacrum and spine to fully square my shoulders - not my hips - it's like a whole new world! I actually find myself wanting to go deeper and experience the power of me!!!

I did not warm to Iyengar's method of moving into W-III quite as readily. After leaning forward over the bent leg, he adds a pause for two breaths. It takes a lot of core, control and strength to lift into the pose from this position, rather than using the momentum of moving forward to lift into the pose. The first time I couldn't even straighten my standing leg! Today, I focused on lifting from my back body (like in chaturanga) and I finally got it. I made it into the pose and felt balanced and strong for the first time. Very nice, but still not sure it's my preferred method of getting into the pose.

After my Warrior practice, I feel very ready for whatever comes my way tomorrow!
